NEWS FROM LOCAL COUNCILLORS

February/March 2015:

News from your Wealden District Councillor, Ann Newton

The two defibrillators should be fitted shortly, one for each Parish Hall. There has been a delay in obtaining the machines – I currently just have the cabinets! These are being given free of charge by the ambulance service courtesy of a local resident. I have passed over a donation of £1,000 as part of my allocated Community Dividend to the Parish Council. This has covered the cost of the cabinets and electricity connection. We still hope to also arrange some training for anyone interested. As mentioned previously, the remainder of my portion of the Community Dividend has been allocated to various other local organisations across the Ward – Framfield & Blackboys Monday Club, Friends of Framfield Church, Axess Films (a locally based organisation making films for the disabled), Friends of Waldron Churches and Heathfield & Waldron First Responders.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me on anything which you think I could help.

I am pleased to be able to report that two defibrillators are now on their way to the Parish, one for each Parish Hall. These are being given free of charge by the ambulance service courtesy of a local resident.  I have passed over a donation of £1,000 as part of my allocated Community Dividend to the Parish Council.  This will cover the cost of the cabinets and electricity connection, all of which should be done by Christmas/New Year.  We hope to also arrange some training in January for anyone interested. The remainder of my portion of the Community Dividend has been allocated to various other local organisations across the Ward – Framfield & Blackboys Monday Club, Friends of Framfield Church, Axess Films (a locally based organisation making films for the disabled), Friends of Waldron Churches and Heathfield & Waldron First Responders.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me on anything which you think I could help.   I wish everyone a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year.

‘Community Dividend’ fund – as reported last time, I hope to install a defibrillator in both halls. This has now been greatly helped by a local resident making the purchase (machine and cabinet) much simpler and I shall be able to afford one for each Hall. There will therefore be some surplus funding which I shall be passing over the local organisations.

It was good to see that the Summer Show was such a great success. The exhibition on World War I was second to none. I met up with Pam Allsop who wrote our Parish history book – ‘Framfield Through the Ages’. If anyone should want a copy, please contact me as I have a supply. All proceeds are currently being put towards the printing of the second book. The cost is £5.00.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me on anything which you think I could help.

Further to my note last month with regard to the ‘Community Dividend’ fund which WDC have negotiated as a compensatory package after the debacle with the bins, I am still thinking about installing a defibrillator in both halls if the fund will stretch that far.  WDC are investigating if they could make a bulk purchase of the machines to enable to keep the cost down which should make the project even more hopeful.

In June I sat through five days of a Public Examination of our Strategic Sites Local Plan.  An interesting and frustrating time whereby the future of the District is mapped and decided before your eyes!

The Parish Council have recently taken part in a consultation exercise on a review of the Conservation Area in Framfield which WDC are conducting.  If anyone wants to get involved or has any opinions could they please let me know.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me on anything which you think I could help – and if I can’t, I generally know someone who can!

I am the County Councillor for Framfield, Blackboys and Palehouse Common. I have represented the local community on East Sussex County Council since 2001.

I am always pleased to hear from local residents on any County Council matters. I have dealt with many local matters over the years, including school bus services and road safety and traffic matters. I work closely with the Parish Council and regularly attend their meetings.

If anyone has any other ideas or knows of any Parish organisations which could do with some financial help please let me know. The money has to be allocated by the end of December 2014.

I am also currently working on the Delivery and Site Allocations Local Plan which will involve a review of the Conservation Area in Framfield along with development management policies which will have implications for decision-making on planning applications.

As mentioned last month, I thought it would be a good idea to have a regular slot in the magazine, to ensure that if anyone has any issues or queries they know who to contact with regard to representatives on our local authorities.

This month I would like to let everyone know that following on from the debacle with the bins, WDC have negotiated with Kier a compensatory package. This year, each District Councillor is to receive an amount of money (in my case approximately £2,200) to spend on ‘good causes’ in the Parish. This can be via the Parish Council or not, as the case may be. If anyone has any ideas or knows of any Parish organisations which could do with some financial help please let me know. The money has to be allocated by the end of December 2014.

I thought it would be a good idea to have a regular slot in the magazine, particularly after the debacle with the refuse bins (!) to ensure that if anyone has any issues or queries they know who to contact with regard to representatives on our local authorities.

I am your Wealden District Councillor – my contact details are below. My Ward covers the civic Parish of Framfield (including Blackboys and Palehouse Common) and also Waldron. WDC covers many aspects of the District including refuse, planning, housing, benefits and licensing to name a few. Although the refuse service has been contracted out residents should contact me with any ongoing problems. Having chaired the Planning Committee in the North of the District for over three years, I am now the Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Planning and Development across the whole District – as you can imagine quite a daunting task.

I work closely with Chris Dowling on issues such as speeding through our villages and anti-social parking. Chris will be writing something for the magazine next time.
